Address search
Type an address into the search box, and click the Enter button to search.

Type an address into the search box, and click the Enter button to search.

Mapit will display a pin on the position matching the address, along with a popup box with key information. The pin can be moved by dragging it around.

Mapit will display a pin on the position matching the address, along with a popup box with key information.

The pin can be moved by dragging it around. The address and position will automatically get updated once you drop the pin. If the popup box disappears, click the pin to bring it back again.

Depending on your permissions, the popup box will also contain a link allowing you to create a new issue directly from the map

Note:

  • Mapit uses the OpenStreetMap address search, and if your search term matches more than one address, Mapit will automatically select the first matching result returned by OpenStreetMap. So if you didn't get the result you expected, please try a more specific search.
  •  OpenStreetMap is an open, free to use, community driven service, which means that it depends on local contributors to keep the maps up-to-date. If the map isn't quite up to date in your area, please consider contributing!

Right-click to set pinSet pin at a custom location

Instead of using the address search box, you can drop the pin at a custom location by right-clicking at the desired spot in the map, and choosing "Set pin here".

Mapit will find the nearest matching address to this location, and display a popup box with key information. The functionality is otherwise the same as for address search.

Mapit menu

The Mapit menu is located in the top right corner of the gadget. The Mapit menu is located in the top right corner of the gadget.
This is where you choose which filters to display issues from, as well as map source(s) and user preferences.
Map source selectorMap source selectorIn the current version of Mapit, map source is limited to OpenStreetMap.
User preferences

User preferences are located below the map source section.

The setting "Remember my settings" controls whether Mapit should remember your last position and zoom level, as well as which filters you have selected to show. We recommend keeping this box checked, and this is also the default value.

If this box is not checked, and you visit some other page within JIRA before going back to the dashboard, Mapit will revert to showing the default map area/zoom level, and no filters will be selected. The default map center position and zoom level are set by your JIRA administrator.

When you tick the checkbox next to the filter you want to display, Mapit will display the issues from this filter in the map

When you tick the checkbox next to the filter you want to display, Mapit will display the issues from this filter in the map.

Please note:

  • Only geotagged issues (issues with valid geographic latitud/longitude coordinates) will be displayed in the map
  • You can select any number of filters to display, but if you select a lot of different filters, which all return a large number of issues, this might impact performance
  • You can reduce the number of filters shown by marking some of them as not favorites. Please refer to the JIRA documentation for more information about managing filters

Viewing issues Depending on your zoom level, and the distance between the different issues, you might see both individual issues and clusters of issues.

Once you have selected a filter containing geotagged issues, and the position of these issues fall within the area you are currently viewing, the issues will be shown in the map.

Depending on your zoom level, and the distance between the different issues, you might see both individual issues and clusters of issues.

ClustersClusters are a way of grouping together issues that are in close proximity, and that would otherwise appear on top of each other when zoomed out.

Clusters are a way of grouping together issues that are in close proximity, and that would otherwise appear on top of each other when zoomed out. Clicking on a cluster zooms you in to a level where you can see the issues individually.

Clusters are color-coded according to the number of issues in the cluster:

  • Green clusters: < 10 issues
  • Yellow clusters: > 10 < 100 issues
  • Orange clusters: > 100 issues

The number of issues included in a cluster is also shown inside the cluster icon.

Note:

  • If you have zoomed in to the maximum zoom level, and issues are still clustered, it means there are several issues on the same position, or in very close proximity. In this case, clicking on the cluster will fan out the issues so that you can click on them individually.
  • Each filter is a cluster group, so if you have selected several filters, some cluster groups might be hidden behind others.
  • If one or more issues belong to several selected filters, they will be counted in each filter/cluster group.
Individual issuesIndividual issues in Mapit are shown with pins that are color-coded according to their JIRA issue status category

Individual issues in Mapit are shown with pins that are color-coded according to their JIRA issue status category:

  • Blue: 'To do' (e.g. Open, Reopened)
  • Yellow: 'In Progress'
  • Green: 'Done' (e.g. Resolved, Closed)

If you have created your own statuses, Mapit will show them with a grey pin.

If you click on an issue, Mapit will show key information about the issue at-a-glance

Issue selectors

Use the issue selectors to select a subset of the issues currently displayed in the map.

Once you've made your selection, Mapit will open a new browser tab, showing the selected issues in the JIRA issue navigator. This is handy for further processing of the issues, either one by one, or through JIRA's bulk edit function. To cancel a selection, just click Escape or the Cancel button.

The following selectors are available:

Polygon selector: click at a position in the map close to one of the issues you want to select. Keep clicking to mark the area you want to select issues from; a line will be drawn from the previous point. Close the polygon by clicking the first position again.

Rectangle selector: click at the position in the map where you want the top left corner of the rectangle to be, then drag until you've covered the area you want to select issues from.

Circular selector: click at the position in the map where you want the center of the circle to be, then drag until you've covered the area you want to select issues from.
