ProFields configuration

ProFields is a JIRA add-on from Deiser that allows you to create project-specific information fields for JIRA.

Starting from version 1.1, Mapit comes with support for ProFields, allowing you to store the geograpical position of JIRA projects in addition to JIRA issues.

The setup is similar to configuring Mapit for issues, but note that the ProFields add-on needs to be installed on your JIRA instance in addition to Mapit for this feature to work. Please refer to the ProFields documentation for more information about setting up this add-on.

Project custom field setup

Before you can start using Mapit together with ProFields, you need to enable ProFields support in the Mapit General Configuration page:

1. Creating project fields

Mapit needs 3 different project fields to store location information. If you don't have these fields already, you need to create them. All custom fields must be of type Text.

  1. A project field to store geographic latitude position.
We recommend that the project field name contains "Lat" or "Latitude" (or translations of these). We also recommend adding some explanatory text in the project field description, such as: "Geographic latitude position for this project. Format is decimal degrees, e.g. 52.5170365"

  2. A project field to store geographic longitude position
We recommend that the project field name contains "Long" or "Longitude" (or translations of these). We also recommend adding some explanatory text in the project field description, such as: "Geographic longitude position for this project. Format is decimal degrees, e.g. 13.3888599"

  3. A project field to store address information
We recommend that the project field name contains "Address" for clarity.

2. Add the project fields to the correct ProField scheme

Next, you need to add the fields created in the previous step to the correct ProField scheme. Please refer to the ProFields documentation for more information about how to do this.

3. Associate project fields with Mapit parameters

Once the project fields have been created and added to the appropriate scheme(s), they need to be mapped to the correct Mapit parameters. Go to the add-ons administration section of your JIRA instance, and choose "General configuration" in the Mapit Configuration section.

  1. First, select the project field that should be used to store latitude position

  2. Next, select the project field that should be used to store longitude position

  3. Finally, select the project field that should be used to store address information

That's it - you are ready to start using Mapit with JIRA projects. Visit the Viewing and geotagging JIRA projects in Mapit page for more information about usage.
